GENDER HUB AZERBAIJAN AT COP30
Young Women’s Health on a Warming Planet: Challenges and Opportunities
Climate change is not only an environmental issue but also a growing public health challenge with disproportionate impacts on young women. Climate-related crises often limit access to sexual and reproductive health services, increase food insecurity, intensify mental health stress, and heighten the risk of gender-based violence. These interconnected challenges highlight the need to address climate change through a gender- and youth-responsive lens that places health and rights at the center of climate action.
As part of Gender Hub Azerbaijan’s engagement at COP30, this session builds on advocacy efforts developed in collaboration with ARROW, including the Global Advocacy Brief on Climate and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights. It brings together gender and health experts, climate advocates, and young leaders to share evidence, experiences, and emerging practices that respond to the health impacts of climate change on young women. The discussion underscores the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration and recognizes young women as both those most affected by climate change and key actors in advancing climate justice and health equity.
